Not necessarily. A humming disposal usually means something is jammed between the blades and the motor is straining. Sometimes it can be freed manually. If the motor has burned out from running too long against a jam, replacement is quick and affordable.

You can, but if the wiring, mounting, or drain connection isn't right, you risk leaks, electrical issues, or voiding the warranty on a new unit. It's a fast job for us and it's done to code.

If the water supply and drain lines are already in place, it's straightforward. If you're adding a dishwasher where one has never been, we'll need to run new supply and drain connections. Either way, proper installation prevents leaks behind the cabinetry where you can't see them.
